Level 2 Energy Audit –  Land and Water Resources Australia

Date: 2002
Client: Land and Water Resources Australia

In 2002, Exergy completed a Level 2 energy audit of the  Canberra offices of Land and Water Resources Australia (LWA).  Exergy was chosen from a select panel of Commonwealth Government accredited energy auditors to conduct the audit.

LWA occupies an medium sized office tenancy located on Northbourne Avenue.  The audit addressed energy use and occupant-comfort issues relating to lighting, air-conditioning, office equipment, building envelope and carpark lighting.  The audit identified a number of opportunities for improvement, including:

  • Reducing the lighting power density to better match the current Australian Standards;
  • Improving the switching of office equipment;
  • Upgrading the controls of the air conditioning system;
  • Installing additional shading structures to reduce solar gains and improve occupant comfort.

Total savings identified amounted to around 16% of the annual energy use.  The payback period on all measures was under four years.
