Star Performer

Starperformer is an expert system designed to assist the owners and occupants of office buildings improve their rating under the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating.  Starperformer prompts users to input basic energy performance data and simple observations about the design and operation of their building.  Starperformer uses this information to diagnose performance problems and evaluate the potential for energy savings.  Starperformer is an initiative of the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Team at the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources.

Exergy had complete responsibility for the technical development and delivery of Starperformer, including:

• Complete responsibility for developing of the technical specification for the expert system;
• Design and development of the database where the building information is stored; and
• Design and development of the dynamically generated web pages that form the interface to the database

Starperformer addresses all the key technical issues that influence energy use in office buildings, including lighting power density and control, office equipment, central heating and cooling plant, air conditioning, and building envelope.  Starperformer generates customised reports that provide users with practical advice on how to go about achieving change within realistic investment horizons.

Starperformer makes full use of Exergy’s broad technical experience, allowing us to identify and prioritise energy efficiency opportunities for office buildings and tenancies across Australia.  The project also showcases our in-house software development capabilities.  Starperformer will soon be available on the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating website, www.abgr.com.au.
